THE CHRISTMAS EVE CANDLE
Parishioners are invited to take part in the old Irish tradition of placing a lit candle in a window on Christmas Eve. As a sign of welcome to all on this night.
The Irish custom of leaving a candle in the window is a common tradition at Christmas in Ireland. It was a symbol of welcome to Mary and Joseph as they travelled, looking for shelter. It was a symbol of the Irish tradition of signalling to any stranger that they were welcome to the house and that none would be turned away. The candle also reminds us all of Christ as the light of the world. On this Christmas Eve, we can all make the effort to light a candle and place it in the window of our homes as a symbol of our Faith and a sign of welcome. On this holiest of nights, we wish you all peace, comfort and joy. ... See MoreSee Less

This is the whole purpose of our lives here on Earth! ... or, as one of our finest Irish poets of the last century, Patrick Kavanagh from Iniskeen, put it in a nutshell:
"Only they who fly home to God have flown at all"!!!
